Amanda Mellor – Co-opted Governor (Vice Chair)

Link Governor to Year 3

I am excited about the school becoming an academy and look forward to being part of the team that help to shape the future of Willaston.  Having seen my children through the education system and also working in education I think means I have a balanced opinion when making decisions.

I am part of the Finance and Staffing committees.

Juliet Suggate - Staff Governor

I have been teaching at Willaston Primary since September 2010 after completing a PGCE at Manchester Metropolitan University. Previously I worked within Personnel and as a Training Advisor having established an interest in personnel management during my BA(Hons) Management degree at the University of Brighton. A career change into teaching has been extremely rewarding and often quite challenging.

It is a fantastic job and I am proud to be part of the Willaston team. I have recently qualified as a Specialist Dyslexia teacher and have found my career moving towards a role focusing on special educational needs of children, as well as classroom teaching.

After being elected as Staff Governor, I have enjoyed being involved with the development and progression of the school and look forward to being proactive in the school’s future both inside and outside of the classroom.

I am delighted to have joined the governing body at Willaston Primary Academy. My youngest son, Josh, who is currently at Reading University, thoroughly enjoyed his primary years at Willaston, learning in such a friendly and supportive environment.

After over 30 years of teaching in both secondary and primary schools, I have recently opened the Kip McGrath Education Centre in Crewe to tutor young people from 5-16 years in English and Maths.  During my teaching years I have led English and had overall responsibility for Key Stage 2 and Year 6.

I am excited about the future of Willaston as an Academy and would like to offer my experience and expertise in education. My particular interests lie in creative aspects of the curriculum, especially art, craft and design.

Ken Mitchell

Ken Mitchell - Co-opted Governor
Quality education is very close to my heart as I have one child in year 11 and my other in year 6. I am currently both the Chair of Trustees for  a Multi Academy Trust (The Birchwood Trust) and Chair of Governors at The Berkeley Academy where I have been a governor for nine years. My areas of interest are finance, buildings, PE and IT.
I have an international commercial background stretching back over 30 years. The business skills that I have acquired on this journey are the ones that I use within the school forum and hope these will aid Willaston in improving on its already fabulous offering. Alongside this I also coach rugby for Sandbach under 15's where "team" is at the centre of everything we do. I look forward to working with the team at Willaston Academy.

Toni Brookshaw - Co-opted Governor

I joined Willaston's Board of Governors in March 2017.  I am currently a member of the Staffing and Curriculum Committees.

I have almost 15 years experience in eucation, across a variety of settings.  I am a qualified secondary school teacher, teaching History and Politics.  I started my career working in a school emerging from special measures, a challenge that was rewarding and from which I learnt a great deal.  I now work in a local Cheshire East school, that was rated 'Outstanding' by OfSTED in 2015-2016.

I was secretary of Willaston Pre-school Committee from 2011 - 2017.  During this time, this wonderful institution was also rated 'Outstanding' by OfSTED.  This gave me a great deal of knowledge about issues within EYFS, as well as a keen interest in primary education.

Both of my children attend Willaston Primay Academy and I am committed to securing the vision and ethos of the school.  I welcome all conversation with fellow parents and am on the playground a few days a week should anyone want to chat.

Clare Grehan - Headteacher

I joined Willaston Primary in September 2010 as Deputy Head and was appointed as Head in February 2012.  It is one of the most rewarding jobs anyone can have.  I am lucky to work with over 200 fantastic pupils and their families and watching the children develop and grow over their time in school is such a privilege.

The Governing Body here at Willaston is such a talented and dedicated group of parents, professionals and members of the community.  As you can see from their testimonials, they come from varied backgrounds and each bring so much experience and expertise to our school.

The development of the Link Governor role over the last few years has seen our governors become so much more involved in the daily life of our pupils, getting to know the different cohorts and the day to day running of the school.  It has really helped to make that secure link between their strategic roles on the Governing Body and how they impact on the children's education, enjoyment and safety.

Reconstituting the Governing Body in February 2013 has allowed us to retain the strong membership that we now have and continue to build upon the strengths and dynamics that we have built over the years.
